What is a LEED Green Associate credential?
The LEED Green Associate credential designates individuals who have a documented, up-to-date understanding of the most current green building principles and practices. The LEED Green Associate is a foundational credential and for many, it is the first step before earning advanced credentials such as the LEED AP with specialty.
What are the eligibility requirements to sit for the LEED Green Associate exam?
The LEED Green Associate exam is open to all individuals. GBCI recommends that candidates taking the LEED Green Associate exam have exposure to the LEED rating system and green building concepts through educational courses, volunteering, or work experience before testing.
What language(s) is the LEED Green Associate exam available in?
The primary language for all LEED exams is English. However, we offer several translation options for the LEED Green Associate exam. Please see the table below for a complete list of available languages. For candidates who elect to test with a translated exam, the exam will be presented with a split-screen. The English question and answer choices will be on the top, and the corresponding translation will appear on the bottom. The use of translators or foreign-language dictionaries during the examination will not be permitted.
Please note that if you choose to take a translated exam, the Introduction, Non-Disclosure Agreement, and tutorial will begin in English. Once these have been completed, your exam will proceed with the translated exam.

How much does it cost to take the LEED Green Associate exam?
The LEED Green Associate exam costs $250 ($200 for USGBC members). See the exam page on the USGBC website for more information about exam fees. Your exam registration fee is valid for one exam attempt.
Is there a student discount for the LEED Green Associate exam?
Exam candidates who are enrolled in college courses either full- or part-time are eligible for a student discount. When registering for your exam, you will be required to enter the name of your school, student ID number, and future graduation date. The cost of the LEED Green Associate exam with a student discount is $100. See the USGBC Students page for more information about student benefits.
Where can I take the LEED Green Associate exam?
There are two ways to take the LEED Green Associate exam. You have the option to take the exam in person at a Prometric testing center or virtually through a remotely proctored internet-enabled (online) location of your choice using Prometric’s ProProctor application.
To determine if there is a test center near you, visit Prometric|GBCI and click on "locate" under the "test center exam" heading.
Before deciding if a remotely-proctored exam is right for you, please run a System Readiness Check and make sure your remote test area meets the environmental requirements found in the ProProctor User Guide.
Is the exam open-book?
All LEED exams are closed-book. Accessing personal effects during an exam is considered a security infraction, and as a result, the exam session may be voided without refund. The exam is computer-based, and exam questions and answer options are displayed on-screen. The computer records your responses and times your exam, and you can change your answers, skip questions, and flag questions for later review.
