Can I join USGBC as an individual?

Yes, as an individual member, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved with USGBC’s local community network. As an individual member, you can sign up to receive monthly community emails, receive exclusive event deals and recognition in USGBC’s member directory. Learn more.

Please note that individual membership is only available in the United States. However, we do have GBCI staff presence worldwide, for a list of regions supported visit our Worldwide tab on GBCI.org.

What are the benefits of joining a local USGBC community as an individual member?

USGBC community members help support USGBC's mission of local market transformation through education, advocacy and outreach. As a local member, you can meet other green building professionals, share your expertise or hone your skills in areas such as public policy advocacy.

How do I cancel my individual membership?

USGBC individual memberships may be canceled within five days of the initial registration or renewal so long as benefits have not been used. Please contact us for further assistance. Otherwise, simply do not renew and allow your membership to lapse.

I joined the wrong community. What do I do?

Please contact us for further assistance. Please note that refunds and cancellations are only made in cases of having mistakenly joined the wrong community and USGBC must be notified within five business days of the error.

I recently moved. Can I transfer my individual membership to a different community?

No, individual memberships currently aren't transferable. You can join as many communities as you’d like – simply allow your old membership to expire and join the new community in the meantime.

Why doesn't my individual membership appear in my profile on the national site?

If your chapter or affiliate manages its own member registration, your membership will not appear on the USGBC national site. Aligned chapters:

I just joined as an individual member. Why am I not receiving a discount on my exam purchase?

Individual membership benefits are community-based and as a result do not include discounts on products such as exams, study guides, and education subscriptions. Discounts on exams are a benefit of organizational membership, please check if your employer is a USGBC member organization.
