What are the goals of TRUE v2?
TRUE v2 is an opportunity to increase the impact, relevance, and accessibility of TRUE certification.
The TRUE v2 draft rating system is a representation of what has already been shared through collaborative feedback, and includes the following goals:
- Increasing the measurement and communication of TRUE’s impact on facilities, the environment, and the wider community
- Increasing the rating system’s global and sector applicability to expand access to all
- Increasing the relevance of the rating system to match the evolving materials management landscape
- Providing a more user-friendly platform that makes analysis and documentation easier
TRUE v2 transition timelines and deadlines
When will TRUE v2 be available for projects?
A launch date will be determined after feedback is received during the public consultation period.
Is the use of TRUE v2 mandatory?
Project teams will not be required to register under TRUE v2 until the registration closure of TRUE v1. Projects that register under TRUE v1 will have until the TRUE v1 sunset date to certify their project.
After the registration closure date for TRUE v1, all projects that register will be required to register until TRUE v2.
When will TRUE v1 be closed to new registrations and sunset?
TRUE v1 will be closed for new registrations approximately one year after the release of TRUE v2. The official date of TRUE v1 closure will be announced with the TRUE v2 launch.
The sunset date for TRUE v1 will be approximately six years after the release of TRUE v2. The official date of sunset, and additional information on the sunset process, will be announced with the TRUE v2 launch.
Will projects registered under TRUE v1 have the opportunity to move to TRUE v2?
Yes. Project teams that wish to update their TRUE certification from the TRUE v1 rating system to the TRUE v2 rating system will be eligible to apply to recertify their project through the recertification process. More information about this process can be found in the TRUE Recertification Guide.
Public consultation and rating system development for TRUE v2
When does the TRUE v2 public consultation period begin and end?
The public consultation period opens February 25, 2026 and closes March 31, 2026.
Who can participate in the TRUE v2 public consultation period?
Public consultation is open to the public. Anyone may review the draft rating system and submit feedback.
A USGBC account is not required to access the public consultation form and submit feedback. However, individuals with a USGBC account can access, edit, and add to their feedback throughout the public consultation period without starting a new form. Individuals without a USGBC account may create one.
