General
Where can I learn more about LEED v5 certification?
Please visit our new LEED v5 webpage.
Where can I learn more about LEED v5 credentialing exams?
Please visit our LEED v5 exam information article.
When will it be possible to register for LEED v5?
LEED v5 is scheduled to complete ballot and be fully available for use in 2025.
Are drafts of LEED v5 available?
Yes, links can be found on the LEED v5 webpage. Check back periodically for updates.
Is the use of LEED v5 mandatory now?
No. Project teams will continue to be able to register for LEED v4 and LEED v4.1 for some time after LEED v5 has progressed through the ballot and member ratification process. Notice will be given before registration closes for any LEED rating system version.
When will LEED v4 and v4.1 be closed to new registrations and sunset?
These dates have not been decided but it is expected that the close of v4/4.1 registration will occur sometime after the opening of the fully-balloted and approved version of v5 and there will likely be some period of overlap where it is possible to register for either v4/4.1 or v5. Once v4/v4.1 is closed to new registrations, already-registered v4/4.1 projects will have a substantial period of time (likely about six years) to complete their certification.
Will projects registered under LEED v4/4.1 be given the opportunity to upgrade their registrations to v5?
Yes. However, the logistics for this process with LEED v5 have not yet been determined. If you are considering using LEED v5, but want to register your project now, register under LEED v4 or LEED v4.1, and we will work with you to upgrade the project in the future if you determine LEED v5 would be a better fit for your project once it has been finalized. Please note that requirements will differ, and work done on project documentation and forms may have to be redone should you choose to change versions.
Will the fees for LEED v5 be the same?
At this time, new fees have not been proposed or determined for LEED v5. Please stay tuned to the Fees page for future updates.
When will documentation and credit forms be available for LEED v5?
These will be developed as the rating system development process continues throughout 2024 and 2025, and they are not expected to be available until around the time the LEED v5 rating systems are released for registration and use.
I am with the press--who can I speak with about the release of USGBC's latest version of LEED?
We welcome your interest in LEED v5. Please reach out to us via our Contact us form and we will direct it to the appropriate person.
Public commenting and ballot process for LEED v5

When is the second public comment period for LEED v5?
You'll find the most up to date information on the public comment schedules on the LEED v5 page.
When was the first public comment period for LEED v5?

This second public comment period features the full rating system language for:

Who can participate in public comment?
Everyone. Public comment is one of the most accessible times to engage in the LEED development process. While other steps are only open to USGBC members, anyone can participate in public comment and USGBC membership is not required.
What happens to the comments?
As part of our governance, each comment received through the credit library and LEEDuser will be reviewed and responded to. Every single one. The comments (without the name of the commenter or any identifying text) and our responses will be released in a report following the close of the public comment period.
What is USGBC looking for in the comments?
During public comment, we are looking for feedback on the credits that includes what you think works well and what needs refinement. The most impactful comments will include not just feedback but also the thoughts behind it. Why you agree (or disagree) with a specific direction. It’s also an opportunity to ask questions.
